Religion in Spain

Religious beliefs are changing in Spain.

Although approximately 90% of Spaniards are Catholics or religion in Spain, began to accept other religions in their culture. In fact, today in Spain you will find that there are about 300 000 Muslims living in the country, with about 250,000 Protestants (Evengelists, Mormons, Lutherans, Baptists, etc.) and about 15,000 Jews, most of them are Sephardic. Jews from these countries in particularNorth Africa and now settled in Cordoba large urban areas like Madrid, Barcelona, Seville.

A great big change that occurred in the last few years is that many Catholics living in Spain, no longer attend weekly services at their local change, in fact, only about 75% of Catholics living in Spain regularly to church every week.

But what is with the Catholic Spaniards is that they are religious in aclearly Spanish and religion continue to play an important role in the life of this country. Of course, the religion that are now in Spain, Roman rule was marked by Century and really only started during the second set '. Of course, for many centuries, Spain is a country born from the struggle between the Islamic religious Catholics, Protestants and Jewish studies. E 'was maintained during the Spanish Inquisition that Catholicism did really like the ChristianSpain fought hard to drive the Moors from the country. But the Inquisition was finally received in 1830 free. But even after that religious freedom has often been denied. Then, in 1851, Catholicism was the state religion and a pact was signed by the Spanish Government (agreed) to compensate which meant that Madrid had to pay salaries, the order of the clergy and to subsidize other costs, the Roman Catholic Church may be incurred in the seizure of monasticProperties. But this agreement was abandoned in 1931 and threatened the existence of the Church in Spain. Because of this church supported Franco during the general uprising that occurred in 1936.

However, both religious beliefs and religion in Spain is much more varied and certainly things are slowly changing, and could be a greater number of people of different religions, the practice is integrated into Spanish culture, thethe future.
